A Tempest, a con man, Sylvia, and dead men walk inot the U of L theatre arts 2013-14 season.
During the 2013-14 season, U of L will present five shows: The Tempest (Sept.), Monsieur Baptiste, the Con Man (Nov.), Dead Man Walking (Jan.-Feb. 2014), Sylvia (Feb.-March 2014), and Gem of the Ocean (April 2014). All shows will take place on the U of L campus, either at The Playhouse (1911 S. Third St.) or the Thrust Theatre (2314 S. Floyd St.).
Season tickets are available, ranging in price from $50, for U of L students and senior citizens, to $65 for all others. Tickets can be purchased at the U of L box office or by calling the box office at 502-852-6814.
U of L theatre arts opens its season Shakespeare style with The Tempest, which deals in themes of mercy, forgiveness, and revenge. The play opens on Sept. 25 and runs until Sept. 29 at the Thrust Theatre.
Next, Monsieur Baptiste, the Con Man takes the stage attempting to take a fortune from a wealthy household. Monsieur Baptiste will go on Nov. 20-24 at The Playhouse. The African-American Theatre Project will produce the play.
Turning to 2014, U of L will present Dead Man Walking, featuring a spiritual advisor to a convicted rapist and murderer on death row. The drama will take place Jan. 29-Feb. 2 at the Thrust Theatre.
Moving back into comedy is Sylvia, a comedy about a man, his best friend (a dog), and the annoyed wife. Sylvia runs Feb. 26-Mar. 2.
Finally, U of L theatre arts will close out the season with Gem of the Ocean, focusing on a 285-year-old matriarch who is a spiritual advisor to former slaves, former criminals, and others. The African-American Theatre Project will produce this show, which goes on April 9-13.
