The Odd Couple appeared on Angel Street after The Drowsy Chaperone introduced them to The Scarlet Pimpernel. Just call that a creative way to showcase As Yet Unnamed Theatre Company's 2011-2012 season.
During its season, As Yet Unnamed will present four shows: The Scarlet Pimpernel(November), Angel Street (Gaslight) (Feb. 2012), The Drowsy Chaperone (May 2012), and The Odd Couple - Female Version (July 2012). All shows will take place in the Mex Theater at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, located at 501 West Main Street in downtown Louisville.
Opening the As Yet Unnamed season will be The Scarlet Pimpernel, a musical full of adventure and love. Sir Percy Blakeney is forced to go into disguise as The Scarlet Pimpernel after his friend's death, which was caused in part by his wife's betrayal. The Scarlet Pimpernel winds up helping other avoid the same fate as his friend.
Auditions for The Scarlet Pimpernel will take place on Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. and Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Third Lutheran Church, located at 1864 Frankfort Ave. near the Kentucky School for the Blind. Auditions are for males and females 18 and older and will consist of cold readings from the musical. Prospective auditioners should come with a prepared song, and an accompanist will be on site.
Nan Knighton created the book and lyrics and Frank Wildhorn created the music for The Scarlet Pimpernel. The production will run from Nov. 18-27.
Angel Street (Gaslight) will follow in February, featuring Bella, whose husband Jack has been torturing her. Bella learns of Jack's murderous past and, with the help of an inspector, must find enough evidence to convict Jack. Patrick Hamilton created Angel Street (Gaslight), which will run from Feb. 10-19.
The Drowsy Chaperone will wake up audiences for the spring. Follow the Man in Chair back into a fictional 1928 musical, which will feature marriage, dreams, dimwitted gangsters, and, yes, even a drowsy chaperone. Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison created the music and lyrics whil Don McKellar and Bob Martin worked on The Drowsy Chaperone's book. The production will run from May 18-27.
Last but not least is the Neil Simon classic The Odd Couple - Female Version. The comedy features two unlikely and completely opposite roommates attempting to live together. This production will run in July 2012.
