High school actors will perform alongside their professional acting mentors in the musical Once on This Island, which opens Friday.

Once on This Island will be performed on Sept. 7, 8, 14, and 15 at 7:30 p.m. each night.  All performances are set to happen at Silver Creek High School, located at 557 Renz Ave. in Sellersburg, IN.

Tickets for each show are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $6 for students.  All tickets can be purchased at the box office or by downloading a ticket order form from the Silver Creek Theatre website.

Once on This Island tells the story of love conquering everything else while also bringing people together.  A young island peasant girl has fallen in love with a boy of a different class and goes on a journey to find him.  This journey will be used by the gods for the ultimate test of her love and faith.

Lynn Ahrens created the book and music for Once on This Island while Stephen Flaherty created the music.  The musical is based on Rosa Guy's book My Love, My Love.

The Silver Creek production is part of the program's Performing With the Pros Series.  Veteran performer Tymika Prince, former Kentuckiana Idol winner Tamika Skaggs, and Kentuckiana's Got Talent winner Cierra Richmond are working with the Silver Creek students on Once on This Island.

Following Once on This Island, Silver Creek High School will present 44 Plays for 44 Presidents.  That production will run in October.
