In this spotlighted Festival of Faiths event, author Stephen Prothero will explore religious literacy — the problem, the past, and proposals for a hopeful future. We will look at such questions as: What will young people need to know about Christianity and other world religions as the 21st century unfolds?; and What are the ways we can deliver the information and develop the skills our youth will need to be both US and world citizens?

Stephen Prothero is the Chair of the Department of Religion at Boston University and the author of numerous books including American Jesus: How the Son of God Became a National Icon and the New York Times bestseller Religious Literacy: What Americans Need to Know.

He has analyzed religion on dozens of National Public Radio programs, and on television on CNN, NBC, MSNBC, FOX, and PBS. He was also a guest on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart and “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”
