You’ve had your chance for 16 years. Now, you have one day left.
It is the end of an era as Riverdance concludes its North American tour forever this June. But Wednesday night, Louisvillians have one more opportunity to witness the Irish dance sensation as Riverdance performs at the Kentucky Center.
After that, fans will need to buy an airline ticket in addition to a seat if they want to catch a show, as performances in the United States will be but a memory.
Touring Europe since 1994 and bursting onto the U.S. scene in 1996, Riverdance has enjoyed a long and celebrated run exposing millions of performance-goers to an explosion of Irish music, song and dance.
Making the Louisville performance even more special is the fact that one of Louisville’s own, Youth Performing Arts School (YPAS) grad, Benjamin Mapp ’03, is part of the company.
Though not an Irish dancer, Mapp brings his spectacular skills to the production as a featured soloist, and is one of two tap dancers in the show. A graduate of Pointe Park University (PA), Mapp says, “This is my first time performing as a professional in Louisville, and I just can’t wait!”
In addition to his stint in the National Tour of Riverdance, Mapp has been seen in commercials for MTV, McDonald’s, Champs and Nikon, and in several off-Broadway and regional productions.
Riverdance performs Wednesday, May 16 at 7:30. Tickets range from $25-$65 and can be purchased at the Kentucky Center box office in person, online, or by calling 502-584-7777.
