Last night I had the privilege of being invited to a private beer event at Rocky's Sub Pub in Jeffersonville, Indiana. I was there with other local, knowledgeable beer folks (who knew I was considered part of that group huh?) to play with and give them feedback on a new beer application they are beta testing and planning to roll out later this month. If you follow me on Twitter then you already saw some sneak peek screen shots I took last evening.
From the get go I was impressed with what I saw, the app was very good looking from the home screen on. Their intention with this application is to assist in educating consumers about virtually anything they might have a question about regarding beer. There is a Beer 101 section that explains about the brewing process, ingredients, beer styles, ABV, IBU's, etc. You as the customer also have the ability to see all the beers that they have available on tap as well as in bottles, along with descriptions of each, IBU, ABV information, and the ability to see comparable beer styles that they have available as well.
It is a very in depth and easy to use application that I feel you as the consumer will be able to interact, and have a lot of fun with. It allows you to create an account that will remember, and log, all the beers and samplers that you have tried for your future reference. It also has a Facebook and Twitter login that will allow you to share with your friends what type of beer you are enjoying. Currently Rocky's only plans for the application to be available on location (they will provide you with a touch pad loaded with the app to use when you arrive). There was some discussion last night about the possibility of making it an external app that users can download to their phones, touch pad, etc. I applaud Rocky's ownership and management for taking this next step in marrying local craft beer and technology; hopefully some of the feedback we provided last night will make a difference in making the application even more user friendly for you beer lovers. I'll let you know when they roll it out, and trust me, you'll want to take the trek to Jeffersonville to check it out and enjoy one of their quality brews.
