The Sacred Subject photography exhibit at Pyro Gallery [Downtown]

John Fitzgerald at Pyro Gallery is currently presenting The Sacred Subject photography exhibit. His photographs are aimed at questioning the conventional definition of holiness.

While Fitzgerald has worked as a commercial photographer, writer, creative director, web designer and filmaker, he has taken a collection of unpolished photographs of individuals, who according to Fitzgerald were perceived as outsiders due to their perceived dispositions. His photographs range from people at church picnics to Haitian children living in Cite Soleil, one of the worlds largest slums.

According in Fitzgerald, "If God is everywhere, then it ought to be easy enough to take his or her picture. I'm surprised the opportunity has been so often overlooked."

Fitzgerald also invited Bob Lockhart, Al Nelson and Elise Fazio to contribute works to his exhibit. Lockhart, a professor of Art at Bellarmine University and renowned sculptor, will be presenting a collection of pieces inspired by a vertebra the artist found in a lake during a trip to Istanbul.

Nelson's past work, mainly his limestone carvings, can be found around Louisville, including his Heart in Harmony at the Louisville YMCA and The Olmstead Conservancy's Dragon Boat in Cherokee Park.

Fazio, Fitzgerald's wife, who is a successful graphic designer and visual artist will also have a collection of paintings and charcoals on display. These pieces were inspired by Fitzgeralds photographs.

The Sacred Subject will be presented Oct. 22 through Nov. 28. The Pyro Gallery (located at 624 Main St.) is open from 11 am to 3 pm on Thursdays and Sundays and 11 am to 5 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Admission is Free and open to the public.
