If I invited you over to see my summer vacation photos from our trip to St. George Island, Florida, you suddenly might have other plans. But what if the photos featured the Army airfield-training base used by the crew of the Enola Gay or the natural salt flats of Utah where numerous land speed records have been recorded? Photographer Sarah Lyon visited these sites in Wendover, Utah last summer to gain project ideas to apply for the Wendover Residence Program, run by the Center for Land Use Interpretation, which is an organization interested in understanding the nature and extent of human interaction with our nation’s lands. Her exhibit Western Landscapes, Bomb Sites, and Target Practice Off the Grid will feature intriguing photographs from this experience.

An artist’s reception is planned for Friday, Oct. 14th from 6- 10 p.m. at the Salvo Collective located at 216 South Shelby Street (and Market St.) This exhibit is being held in conjunction with the Photo Biennial and will be on view until October 30th.

About Julie Gross

I’m originally from Ohio, but have been a Louisvillian for half my life. I divide my time between hubby, 3 kids, too many pets, and the 930 Art Center. When I'm not, you'll find me running the trails in Cherokee or Jefferson Memorial Forest.
