Lysistrata
Print this page

War is raging, and so are men once women hold back a natural desire in the production Lysistrata, which Savage Rose Classical Theatre Company will present starting tonight.

Lysistrata will take place on Dec. 6-8, 10, and 13-15 at 7:30 p.m. each night.  A matinee show will occur on Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. All performances are to happen inside the Mex Theater at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, located at 501 West Main Street in downtown Louisville.

Tickets for most shows are $17 per person, and a special industry night rate of $12 per person will happen on Dec. 10.  All tickets can be purchased at the Kentucky Center box office, the Kentucky Center website, or by calling the box office at 1-800-775-7777.  Keep in mind, the show is recommended for those 13 and over due to mature content and sexual themes.

The production Lysistrata features the title character leading the women of ancient Athens in holding back a particular natural desire from men, who are engaged in a seemingly unending Peloponnesian War and other power struggles.  The hope for the women is that men would come to their senses, end the war, and bring peace to the society.

Following Lysistrata, Savage Rose will return with The Taming of the Shrew and The Rover in rotating repertory.  Both productions will take place in March.  More information on Savage Rose Classical Theatre Company can be found at its website.
