Los Monitos in the Mellwood Arts & Center is offering summer camps throughout June and July. Some of the classes delve into Spanish art, music and cooking as well, so you can train your little Velázquez to flamenco dance and make pulpo a la gallega. (Spanish help via Google translate, as I'm one of those monolingual ignoramuses.) Speed Museum June 1-August 7 2035 S. 3rd St. Knowing that Hunter S. Thompson hailed from Louisville, it seemed logical for the city to have a Speed Museum. Turns out it's actually "Kentucky’s oldest and largest art museum with over 13,000 pieces in its permanent collection" and not a tribute to the long and distinguished history of amphetamines. And, as it is the former, you can feel comfortable sending your kids to any of itsassortment of summer art camps. Frazier Museum Summer Camp June 15-July 17 829 W. Main St. Travel through time, follow pioneers west or explore science this summer at Frazier Museum's camps. Prices are $175 for non-museum members and $155 for members. Summer Chess Camp July 23-July 31 Kentucky Country Day School USA Chess is offering morning, afternoon and all-day sessions for "coeds ages 5 through 16" (I'm guessing they meant to say was that the camp was for boys and girls).
