Shame the Devil

Slavery life horrified a young lady so much she wrote a book.  That book became the one-woman show Shame the Devil! An Audience with Fanny Kemble, which opens Tuesday at The Bard's Town.

Shame the Devil will take place on July 31 and August 1 at 7:30 p.m. each night.  Both performances are to happen at The Bard's Town, located at 1801 Bardstown Road in the Highlands.

Tickets for each show are $15 per person and can be purchased through The Bard's Town.  More information on the show can be found by e-mailing [email protected].

Shame the Devil! An Audience With Fanny Kemble is a one-woman show featuring Megan Burnett, who tells the story of Kemble, who lived life on stage until marrying Pierce Butler and moving into his plantation home.  She saw firsthand the daily routine for the slaves on the plantation, which led to her anti-slavery book Journal of a Residence on a Southern Plantation.  That book became the inspiration for Shame the Devil!

Kathi E.B. Ellis directed Burnett in the production.
