In 2000 you’d think we were boarding the U.S.S. enterprise when we went to that first game at Louisville Slugger Field.
At least, as a young kid that’s what I thought. Growing up my dad and I went to our share of Bats games, starting with Cardinal Stadium and going into the current Louisville Slugger Field. As such, I have very fond memories of the team’s various incarnations, and regardless of if the pro-bound athletes were going to the Cardinals, Reds or Brewers I always knew that they were out there; every summer.
And, in 2000 when the then Riverbats went to Slugger Field one had to notice the new technologically sound stadium.
Prior to that, there was talk of course about the new stadium where the team would end up. And, the Metro Development Authority turned their attention to just that, putting in over twenty-five million dollars the stadium was intended from its base architecture to be a source of pride for the city. A quality ball park if you will.
It only made sense that the city that made the Louisville Slugger would take the game of baseball so seriously, further it made even more sense when the primary backer of the new stadium became Hillerich & Bradsby; or if you prefer that company behind the Slugger.
That to me meant something right away. This was the ballpark extension to the most nationally known sports related brand; that is really a perfect match.
Since the stadium’s completion the Bats have delivered on the promises made by the name of “Slugger,” finding much victory in their division and in Triple-A baseball as a whole.
In addition the park has hosted concerts and various other events however one can’t get passed the fact that it was built and is truly utilized to its full potential as a house of America’s national pastime.
