The library has been one of my family's go-to spots this summer. Where else can you experience live entertainment, win prizes, and leave with a heaping bag-o-books for free? The library staff is always helpful and engaging to my young readers and it's a great place to escape the oppressive heat.

The Louisville Free Public Library's summer reading program, Myth, Magic and Imagination is in its final weeks, so if you haven't connected with your local library this summer, there's still time. Any child, birth to 5th grade, can pick up a Summer Reading folder, read 10 books and earn the following prizes:

a Myth, Magic and Imagination backpack

a journal

passes to the Louisville Science Center

ArtSparks

Squire Boone Caverns

Locust Grove

the Planetarium

the Thomas Edison House

a free Bats Game

free Wendy's Frosty

free Frazoli's Lemon Ice

tickets to UofL athletic events

Now through August 6, your family can participate in the program and enter to win a host of grand prizes for completing the folder including school supplies and family memberships. Teens are encouraged to participate in creative projects, like making a movie trailer for their favorite book, and will receive a USB wristband.

Be sure to partake in the library's many events for children when you pick up your summer folder. Each day various branches offer story times for babies and toddlers, craft workshops, and even dance parties. Several tween and teen events like anime workshops will engage even the most discerning audiences. If late fees have deterred you or your family from stopping by, LFPL offers a reading debt reduction--simply read and your fines decrease, amazing.

The library encourages 60,000 children and teens to read for pleasure over the summer. Supporting the local library just makes sense.
