Take Dad to see the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra [Highlands]

Print

If your dad ever yelled, “Turn that music down!” the Louisville Mandolin Orchestra might be something both of you can agree upon. The acoustic ensemble, whose repertoire covers music from early American to modern and from classical to folk, will perform a free concert on Sunday, June 20 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1960 Bardstown Road in the Highlands.

The group, which consists of mandolins, mandolas, mandocellos, guitars and bass, has performed around the world and at such local and regional showcases as Kentucky Homefront, the Old Fashion 4th Of July Festival at the Peterson-Dumesil House and Berea College. Its mission—to revive the century-old tradition of community music-making and provide performance opportunities to players of all abilities while bringing the world's best mandolinists and guitarists to Louisville audiences—has remained unchanged since its founding in 1988.

The show begins at 2:30 and is free and open to the public. For more information, call Eugene Carner at St. Francis at 456-6394.
