There’s a party in my city! ‘Yo Gabba Gabba! Live’ hits Louisville Monday [Family & Parenting]

What do you get when a couple of indie rockers (who happen to be dads) put on a show—and invite a jumpsuit-clad club DJ, an ‘80s rapper, a ‘70s rocker and everyone from Elijah Wood to Anthony Bourdain to Jack Black to play along? Oh, and there are also these characters…

The result is Yo Gabba Gabba!, the hit kids’ television show that currently airs on Nick Jr. Since its first episode in 2007, the program has starred five decidedly surreal creatures (Muno, Foofa, Brobee, Toodie and Plex) and DJ Lance Rock, their human friend who leads them in learning life’s little lessons—all with a healthy dose of kid-friendly house music. Nearly every episode also features Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh and beatbox master Biz Markie, along with familiar faces from movies as well as the cutting-edge music scene. How could it get any better?

This coming Monday, October 11, “Yo Gabba Gabba! Live: There’s a Party in My City” will come to the Louisville Palace for shows at 1:00 and 5:00. This high-energy event will feature the five colorful characters, DJ Lance Rock, Biz Markie, a surprise “Dancey Dance Friend” (previous live guests have included the likes of Bootsy Collins and Sarah Silverman) and a live mini-concert from a surprise band as part of the “Super Music Friends Show.” (Creator Christian Jacobs’ punk-ska-superhero band, The Aquabats!, frequently appears, bringing out fans who don’t even have kids. As fun as The Aquabats! are, is it too much to hope for an MMJ sighting?)

Along with bringing the party to our city, the Gabba gang will partner with Habitat for Humanity to further their homebuilding efforts in Louisville. One dollar from every ticket sold will be donated to the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.

Tickets are $25 and $35 and are available at the Louisville Palace; call 583-4555 or www.louisvillepalace.com. Children under one year of age will be admitted free to sit on a parent's lap.
