Wondering where to park the family for a day of war machines and thunderous explosions? If you don't already have your game-plan for this Saturday, April 16, try Boomtown at Tumbleweed Southwest Grill to fulfill all your Thunder Over Louisville desires. This new venue at Thunder offers a multitude of family-friendly amenities including outside activities and play areas, food, a beer and margarita garden, port-o-lets, the Thunder sound system, and best of all, FREE admission.

Located at 1201 River Road, this venue should offer a spectacular view of the air shows. From 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Boomtown could be the ideal family fort--that is if you're willing to hold it down in the cold and rainy forecast they're calling for this Saturday.

For more information about this event, call (502) 618-8323 or email Tumbleweed.

On the South Great Lawn, there will also be a play area for children. The interactive attractions including a Merry-go-Round, Rock Wall, Super Slide, Ala-Baba Magic Carpet, Moon Bounce, and Obstacle Course might just distract the kids from the long, cold wait before the fireworks.

The Chow Wagon and other attractions require a Pegasus Pin for admittance, so come prepared with your pins (and ponchos, chairs, layers, water, etc…).

The air show is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. while the fireworks won't light up the Second Street Bridge until 9:30. Good luck, parents, if you choose to journey to the Waterfront for Thunder. Be sure to dress warm, take plenty of snacks, blankets, and wet-wipes, and give yourself plenty of time for the trek home--like love, the commute is usually easy going in, but nearly-impossible when you decide to leave. Consider enjoying the air show or the fireworks, but realize both might over-stimulate and push the limits for both child and parent, not to mention every innocent bystander in your path. May the grace of The Derby Goddesses be with you, families.
