April’s going to be big at Ear X-tacy.

Prefer your Thunder week crowds indoors and with a better soundtrack? Come to the second annual Vinyl in the Ville on

Thursday, April 15, 7–9 p.m. at

Ear X-tacy,

1534 Bardstown Rd. The free event, sponsored by Crosley Radio and the Magnolia Photo Booth Co., is an opportunity for vinyl lovers to bring in their own records and play DJ for an hour or two.

“Anybody can bring in their choice of record and play their song, or we’ll have a DJ in case there aren’t enough people,” says Ear X-tacy store manager Rebecca Cornwell, adding that last year’s inaugural event brought out more than 400 people, albeit not all toting record collections. Still, even though there wasn’t enough time for everyone to drop a needle, “People were pretty cool about it….It’s first come, first serve, but we’re open till 10, so we can keep it open a bit later,” she says.

Sweetening the deal are free turntables for five lucky winners who come to Vinyl in the Ville (and stay for the drawing), kindly donated by Crosley, and 20 percent off all vinyl records all day that Thursday.  On top of that, Magnolia Photo Booth will be on hand for anyone who’d like a picture with a beloved record cover or other prop.

Another event for Ear X-tacy is Record Store Day on Saturday, April 17. This national event coincides with Thunder Over Louisville, Cornwell says, but have no fear: “There are probably over 300 exclusive releases that day and things like that for the record store, and we’ll have a lot of those.” Cornwell says there are also plans for other events that week, such as sales, giveaways and some in-store performances; watch Louisville.com for more information.
