Madpixel Art and Design for Derby

The weekend before Derby is always a blur since it’s filled with last minute clothes shopping, horse studying (is this a real term?) and watching the weather patterns hoping it doesn’t rain on May 5th.  But for the Cherokee Triangle Association it always means its time for the annual Cherokee Triangle Art Fair.

This year will mark 41 years for this event. What started as a way for the CTA to exchange and purchase plants with their neighbors has now grown to host 20,000 visitors over the weekend in order to feature everything from artwork to antiques as well as the beloved plant booth that still offers plants for the garden.

It’s no secret that the annual Cherokee Triangle Art Fair is the major fundraiser for Louisville’s Cherokee Triangle Association. They use the event’s proceeds to enhance the community and neighborhood by “funding summer concerts in Willow Park, to maintain the General Castleman statue and its landscaping, and to make donations to the Highlands/Shelby Park branch of the Louisville Free Public Library, the Highlands Communities Ministries, and to the Olmsted Parks Conservancy.” This is a true grassroots initiative that is yet another reason which makes Louisville a great city to live in.

According to the Courier Journal, this year to encourage attendees to “go green” and bike to the event, the Cherokee Triangle Association will be offering a bike valet. What the? The CJ states, “Instead of having to lug bikes throughout the crowded fair, cyclists can have them watched over by the nonprofit Bicycling for Louisville.” Food, drink, activities for kids and of course art will all be available.

Be sure to look for Madpixel Art and Design who is offering up some of the best Derby themed screen prints I’ve seen this year.

The Cherokee Triangle Art Fair is a free event from 10am – 6pm on Saturday, April 28th and Sunday, April 29th. Music concerts follow after closing time. Be aware that the art fair is a pet-free zone, so leave the pup at home. Parking is always an issue since this is set up in the street of a historic neighborhood. Street parking if you can find it, but prepare to walk to it. Handicapped parking close to the fair is available. The Cherokee Triangle Art Fair is located at Cherokee Parkway between Willow Avenue and Cherokee Road adjacent to the Gen. John Breckinridge Castleman statue.
