My toddler was best described recently by his Heartland Music Together music teacher as a “very kinesthetic child.” She described him to a tee. He runs wherever he wants to go. And where does he mostly want to go? To the park! Any park, seriously:
That’s it, that’s our top five parks we frequent on a pretty regular, and by regular I mean daily, basis. Here’s what we (well mostly he) loves about each park.
The Parklands of Floyds Fork – I covered our adventures at this park here. It’s not technically located within the city limits of Jeffersontown but it’s close enough and we love the drive from J-town down Taylorsville Road to get there; we feel like we’re getting out in the country just enough for a country drive.
Jeffersontown Veterans Memorial Park – We can’t make our drive to Kroger without seeing the huge tank and helicopter towering off the side of Taylorsville Road at my toddler’s almost favorite park. Sometimes we can’t drive past without stopping! He loves the smaller playground suited better for toddlers; there is another larger playground for older children as well. We also love taking the walking path down through the trees and wooded area to the bridge over the creek.
Douglass Hills Park - Again, this is not a Jeffersontown park, it’s located in the Middletown area, but it’s close to Gramma’s house and we stop here almost every time we leave her house. We love to meet our cousin here and have some play time. I love the climbing/slide structure and the fenced in play area. Fences are good for highly active, energetic, kinesthetic kids. Very good.
Charlie Vettiner Park – We head to this park quite frequently in the summer when we have my older child along with us. This park yet again has a great playground, among other great amenities too.
Des Pres Park – This is the park where I recently decided to put my new jogging stroller to use, to walk. We go about once a week and I walk the winding trail through the park, then my toddler anxiously waits his turn to get out and go play on the wonderful playground!
Bonus: Skyview Park, which has gained some attention recently because the City of Jeffersontown is putting in a small splash area at this park on Watterson Trail, known for its little league baseball facilities.
