Does anything say “summer’s bounty” like an abundance of tomatoes? Maybe sweet corn but I think probably not. Summer produce is really all about tomatoes and Chef John Castro at Winston’s is taking full advantage of that fact. Instead of being overrun with tomatoes and saying "let's make tomato sauce"

Chef Castro has instead said "let's come up with a super interesting tomato based menu." Good choice chef. On Friday August 1, Saturday August 2, Friday August 8, and Saturday August 9 Winston’s is presenting an Heirloom Tomato Dinner with fresh tomatoes from local producers, including some varietals that were produced specifically for Winston’s. The cost of the dinner is $55, or $75 with wine, excluding tax and gratuity.

For reservations, call 502-456-0980.

The menu is as follows: Amuse Tomato and Goat Cheese Terrine Appetizer Grilled Eggplant and Summer Squash with a ragout of lentils, bacon and heirloom tomatoes Salad Heirloom Tomato “Panzanella” Fish Course Seared Sea Scallop with heirloom tomatoes, garlic, and herb grits, finished with a preserved lemon sauce Intermezzo Naked Heirloom Tomato Discussion and Tasting Entrée Beef Filet with orange thyme nasturtium butter and roasted heirloom tomatoes Dessert Tomato Melba with shortbread and sesame brittle
