Top five spots for Saturday morning doughnuts

Top five spots for Saturday morning doughnuts

It’s no secret that Louisville has some of the best restaurants in the world.  Perhaps slightly secret is the fact that we also have some of the best bakeries in the world.  Here are five of my favorite spots in town for Saturday morning doughnuts.

5. Nord’s Bakery is a small bakery that does doughnuts right.  Maple bacon long johns, anyone?  (See's review here.)

4. Sugar and Spice Donuts in Fern Creek makes the doughnut equivalent those fancy-schmancy boutique cupcakes.  With such offerings as banana split, funky monkey, and toffee crunch, there’s something to please every doughnut lover in the family.  (See's review here.)

3. Jeff’s Bakery in Jeffersonville, Indiana offers over 30 varieties of doughnuts, including such gems as German Chocolate and Caramel Pecan.  And they’re high in fiber, too!

2. Hi-Five Doughnuts is a build-your-own traveling doughnut shop.  Go check out their bourbon caramel doughnuts at the Flea off Market Holiday Bazaar this weekend.  (See's review here.)

1. Plehn’s Bakery in St. Matthews is a Louisville classic.  Their Yum Yums are the stuff my dreams are made of.  Get there early-they sell out quick!  (See's review here.)
