The Kentucky General Assembly convened Wednesday and The Senate is adjourned until 4pm on Tuesday due to weather conditions across the state, but the House has reconvening at 9am today. 

As heavy snowfalls blankets the capitol, the docket for the day piles up.  Here are the top tweets from General Assembly. 

The Senate Health and Welfare Committee has been overtaken with a Cannabis Discussion.  The bill in question is titled SB43, or what some have called The Cannabis Compassion Act of 2014. 

Senate discussion on abortion bill, Senate Bill 3, requiring informed consent flowed throughout the Health and Welfare committee. 

                                    

The Senate passes a resolution, introduced by Sen. David Givens, recognizing the work of Kentucky Youth Advocates and the 10 year annual Children’s Advocacy Day.  The annual Child Advocacy Day asks Kentucky legislatures to invest in children. 

 Sen. John Schickel, R-Union, said of his Senate Bill 80, “This is about trying to help people if we can help people.”  The bill would essentially allow primates to be utilized as service monkeys in aiding those who are paralyzed. 

After receiving national attention for accidentally firing her gun in her office in the Capitol on Tuesday, January 7th, Kentucky state representative, Leslie Combs (D) responds by saying, “I’m a gun owner. It happens.” 

As the Kentucky General Assembly continues to convene, look for more of what’s trending from the Capitol halls.
