Saturday night at 732 Social's beautiful new gallery space, a charming coktail party thanked the hosts, donors and sponsors of Down & Derby 2009 and invited new ones for 2010's party, which will be May 1, again at the Water Tower.

Down & Derby, now in its second year, benefits the Wings Clinic (an HIV/AIDS clinic associated with the University of Louisville that provides 100 percent comprehensive coverage to people living with HIV/AIDS in our community) and the Louisville AIDSWalk. Attending my first event writing for Louisville.com, I noticed the relationships that Down & Derby had created with these organizations and I was delighted to know that compassion and unity of Louisville had not been lost in its rapid growth.

Saturday night's "kickoff party for the only gay/lesbian, dudes and divas and anyone wanting to have fun on Derby Night" gathering lived up to its billing as "a good time that supported a meaningful cause true to our hearts." And if the party itself on May 1 is as fun and worthwhile as the kick-off, you'll want to be at the Water Tower on Derby Eve.

I am grateful to events like this one that help give my life perspective. From the opportunity to be a face of Churchill Downs, to partnering with Louisville.com, it's became clear that working together is crucial professionally and personally--and that this community offers a lot of opportunites to do so.

My career didn't start in Louisville, but I'm here now. I was born here and lived on Second Street as a young child. I later moved to a secluded country area in J-Town, where I grew up being daddy's little girl. Whiule I spent five years of my life working campaigns for Abercrombie, American Eagle, and Sophora but my heart belongs to Louisville.  Upon returning to the Bluegrass State I immediately took notice of the company Pinnacle 10. I was pleased to see that the standard that I had become accustomed to resided right here in Louisville. After signing with it we shot for Churchill Downs's spring campaign. I had a quiet sense of pride that I had booked Churchill Downs. Like Down & Derby, Churchill Downs exemplifies some of the best of Louisville, bringing guests like the Queen of England, Super Bowl winning athlete Eli Manning, and the legend Aretha Franklin to this city! I was thankful and proud to be embraced by Louisville so quick upon my arrival from the Big Apple.

Another career first has been partnering with Louisville.com in connection with Trends 10. This column, which I'm cowriting with Christan Turner, Pinnacle 10's president, is a blog where we'll cover the most popular regional events, like Down & Derby, and offer our babble on all things fashion. We look forward to exploring this city with you!
