Trends from at fashion in the village [Fashion]

Fashion lovers of all ages flocked to Westport Village last night to enjoy a fashion show sponsored by Sophisticated Living to benefit the Kenneth Black Culinary Scholarship Fund.

The models were decked out head to toe in clothing provided by the many boutiques of Westport Village.  Ticket holders were also invited to stay and shop the stores extended hours to pull their own fall fashions together.

Although there were tons of looks displayed, there were some clear standouts that should be staples in your wardrobe as you prepare for the colder months.

Silhoutte and texture were huge last night.  There were tons of super short skirts and dresses, leggings and tight skinny jeans paired with poncho-like tops or fitted jackets, and lots of layers.

Fur was a huge hit--as a vest, a muff, a collar, and even on a pair of major furry boots.  Textured fabric included crinkled crepe on dresses, sequins (on a killer gold long-sleeved mini dress), as well as feathered and fringed skirt. Fall is the perfect time to play with mixing fabrics and textures.  Bulkier and heavier fabrics used in colder months are naturally more textured anyway and pairing them with a lighter gauzy fabric is a great contrast. Think masculine wool houndstooth, or heavy distressed leather and match it with a light silky fabric.  The stark difference between the two look fabulous!

My favorite look included a civil war era military inspired double breasted coat with gold buttons. It was classic and tailored, but edgy and different at the same time. But military looks were seen everywhere, from vests to skirts and boots.

Flat boots, sky high platforms and booties were paired with every look, and accessories like headbands, hats, scarves, and bows added some punch.

My only gripe was that onlookers had no idea which store the clothes came from, so you'll have to do some clever and extensive shopping to find an entire outfit.  But not too many fashionistas will complain about doing their homework when it comes to pulling and outfit together.  The boutique owners are also very helpful and can assist in helping you create your own style for this season.

Take these few insights from the show and get shopping!
