Two award-winning high schools come together for a Tony Award winning show, The Drowsy Chaperone, beginning tomorrow night.
The Drowsy Chaperone will occur on Nov. 5, 6, 12, and 13 at 7:30 p.m. each night. Matinee performances, meanwhile, will take place on Nov. 7 and 14 at 2 p.m. each day. All performances of The Drowsy Chaperone will take place at Floyd Central High School, located at 6575 Old Vincennes Road in Floyds Knobs, IN.
Tickets for the show are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $8 for students. Tickets can be upgraded for $6 to include VIP treatment, which includes better seating as well as a lounge with refreshments. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling 812-542-2284. More information can be found via the phone number or the Floyd Central website.
In The Drowsy Chaperone, a fanatic, named Man in Chair, presents a rare cast recording of his favorite show, The Drowsy Chaperone. The Man in Chair plays the record, and the musical comedy comes to life, taking everyone back in time to the fictional 1928 musical. During the trip, there will be marriage, dreams, dimwitted gangsters, and, yes, even a drowsy chaperone.
Floyd Central and New Albany High School theatre students combined to put on The Drowsy Chaperone. The schools have collaborated on shows in the past, including Grease and The Boyfriend. Both shows were later invited to perform at the International Thespian Festival.
The Drowsy Chaperone is the first combined show for the schools in four years. The Drowsy Chaperone, meanwhile, had a run on Broadway in 2006 and 2007. The show won multiple Tony Awards and was a best musical nominee in 2006.
Following The Drowsy Chaperone, Floyd Central High School will present The Apple Tree as part of its Studio One series. The production will take place in January. The next mainstage series show is Willy Wonka, which will run in March.
