After being sidelined for over three months due to a GI tract infection, Uncle Mo will make his return to racing in the Grade 1 $250,000 Foxwoods King's Bishop Stakes at Saratoga Race Course in New York.
Although he has not raced since his defeat to Toby's Corner in the April 9th Wood Memorial, Uncle Mo has been installed as the 9-5 morning line favorite in the Foxwoods King's Bishop. He seems to have recovered from his gastrointestinal infection and has been doing well since returning to training last month. He has posted six works, which include two bullets. In his last work, August 21, he worked five furlongs in a sharp :59.95.
Uncle Mo appears to be back in form and ready for a big show. We'll find out Saturday if he is the same colt we fell in love with last November when he won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile by four and a quarter lengths.
Uncle Mo has not chosen an easy field in which to make his return. Flashpoint, the Hutcheson Stakes and Jersey Shore winner, is a proven sprinter who should relish the seven furlong distance. He has three wins from five starts this year and has turned in three consecutive bullet works since his win in the Jersey Shore last month. If not for Uncle Mo, Flashpoint would easily be the favorite in this field.
Caleb's Posse is the third choice on the morning line at 9-2. He finished second in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes back in March and won the Ohio Derby in June. He finished fourth in the Iowa Derby and, in his last start, won the Grade 2 Amsterdam at Saratoga by four lengths.
Dominus may be the fourth choice in the field, but appears to be sitting on a nice effort. He finished third behind Travers Stakes contenders Stay Thirsty and Moonshine Mullin in the Jim Dandy and won the Grade 2 Dwyer Stakes over Adios Charlie and fellow King's Bishop contender, Cool Blue Red Hot. The Steve Asmussen-trained runner has never finished off the board in five career starts.
Rounding out the field of eight are Runflatout, Poseidon's Warrior, Justin Phillip and Cool Blue Red Hot.
The race is the 11th on Saratoga's Saturday card and is scheduled to run at 5:12 p.m. It can be seen as part of NBC's "Summer at Saratoga" program airing from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. on NBC. The program will also include the Grade 1 Travers Stakes.
