If you’re at Churchill Downs for Kentucky Derby or any day during Derby week, you want to stick it to your friends toiling away at school or the office by harassing them with texts, pictures, social media posts and more from the track. However, with everyone else on track doing the same thing, it can be tough to get your posts to their recipients. Fear not AT&T and Verizon users, on-track service is getting a boost.
Verizon Wireless announced earlier this week that it will provide enhanced coverage for its Louisville customers due in part to a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) installed at Churchill Downs. Verizon will have Cell on Wheels (COW) and a Cell on Light Truck (COLT) on track to boost users’ connections. Additionally, Verizon is enhancing its 4G LTE network by launching a second band of spectrum called AWS. This will provide more connections and faster speeds in the Louisville area.
Last year AT&T announced it was providing exclusive enhancements for its on-track customers through the same system with the COWs and COLT. Although AT&T has not specifically released a statement about their system this year, it has remained in place since last year and should provide customers the same boost in service.
T-Mobile has also expanded its coverage since last year's Derby, adding additional spectrum to their 4G LTE network and expanded backhaul capacity.
