Village 8 Louisville Exclusives presents '6 Month Rule' [Movies]
Print this page

I've been out of the dating game for a while – and thank goodness. At the tender age of 24, I am perhaps a little young to have been married for four and a half years, and my wife and I do sometimes speculate about how we would do date-wise if we were single. No regrets, though – teenage memories of official “dates” with crushes are filled mostly with awkwardness and embarrassment. And when I look at my acquaintances and see all their complex romantic situations, I am glad I don't have to worry about it. While navigating the world of marriage and fatherhood has more than its fair share of complications, I at least know where everything stands; I called it a “dating game,” and the more I observe, the more I notice that it really is a game – you have to play by the rules and jump through hoops and it all seems very silly.

Speaking of “rules” and “dating,” let's discuss the latest installment in the Village 8 Louisville Exclusives series, which delivers art, foreign, and limited-release films to local cinephiles. This week's selection is entitled “6 Month Rule” (see what I did there?), written and directed by Blayne Weaver. Weaver also stars as Tyler, a man who has a rule that no woman is worth more than six months of your time. Firm in his philosophy, he tries to convert his best friend Alan (Martin Starr) to his ways of thinking, but when he meets the beautiful Sophie (Natalie Morales) he begins to question whether she might be worth more.

“6 Month Rule” plays at Village 8 Theater until this Thursday, June 14. Village 8 is located at 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the Village 8 website.

About Allan Day

There are legitimate theories that the Big Bang originated from the collapse of a black hole in a fourth-dimensional universe. This stuff fascinates me, and I love reading about it. I love reading about science. And about anything, for that matter, provided it's interesting - and everything is potentially interesting, so I'm fascinated by a lot of things. I also read a lot of fiction (Kurt Vonnegut deserves deification) and watch a lot of movies (Charlie Chaplin also deserves deification). I've made a few short films myself. I'm also a writer of everything - I'm close to a Bachelor's in English at IUS. My life consists of reading, writing, bartending, and taking care of my daughter full-time. Life is busy and life is stressful, but that's why there's music and art and other forms of relaxation.
