Village 8 Louisville Exclusives presents 'Crazy Horse' [Movies]

Ah, Paris! The city of light and romance! I spent a week there two summers ago and I can tell you… that it is actually the city of heat and tourists. It’s a bit overrated. The French don’t believe in air conditioning (seriously) and you had to search to find an actual French person amidst throngs of camera-clad visitors. It was a good week, but certainly not romantic. However, the very best night we had in Paris was spent walking through the Red Light District to check out Le Musee de l’Erotisme (Museum of Erotic Art). The Red Light District! The sounds, the colors, the people! Walk past a club where you are offered a private striptease and go next door to get a delicious banana nutella crepe from a street vendor. Good times.

One of the city’s most renowned cabaret clubs is called the Crazy Horse, which specializes in “nude chic”; more than just a strip club, their ladies perform exceptional choreography in their dance routines, as well as showcasing other forms of performance, such as magic and mime.

Documentarian Frederick Wiseman decided to take his cameras inside the club, and the result is the film aptly titled “Crazy Horse,” which plays at Village 8 Theater as part of their Louisville Exclusive series. The film follows the company as they prepare for the show “Désir,” taking the audience behind the scenes of rehearsals and make-up and other preparations, as well as footage of the show itself, which is staged by renowned choreographer Philippe Decouflé.

The trailer for the film can be viewed here (contains nudity).

“Crazy Horse” plays until this Thursday, March 29. Village 8 Theater is located at 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Theater information and showtimes can be found at the Village 8 website.
