Village 8 Louisville Exclusives presents 'Mother's Red Dress' [Movies]

Last February, I had the privilege of speaking with Edgar Michael Bravo and John Paul Rice, the director and producer, respectively, of the film “Mother’s Red Dress,” which played at this year’s Derby City Film Festival. The film tells the story of Paul, who leaves home after witnessing his mother shoot her abusive boyfriend. In Southern California he meets Ashley, and his life begins to come together… until he is summoned back home by his mother, who is dying of cancer and wants to reconnect with Paul and the father who abandoned them.

Those who didn’t make it out to the Derby City Film Festival now have a chance to see this film at Village 8 Theater as the latest installment in the Louisville Exclusives series. The film will run for a week, until Thursday, April 27.

“Mother’s Red Dress” is presented in partnership with the Family and Children’s Place, which provides service and counseling to victims of domestic violence, as well as prevention and intervention of abuse. Says Josh Shoulta, Public Relations Manager of the Family and Children’s Place:

“For too long issues like child abuse have been absent from public discussion. Whether around a dinner table, in a classroom, or in an artistic setting like a feature film, we need to address these problems. We commend ‘Mother’s Red Dress’ for shedding light on abuse, particularly during Child Abuse Prevention Month.”

John Paul Rice comments:

“This movie is about the incredible strength and resilience that victims of violence and abuse have. No matter what walk of life we are from, there is always hope once we let ourselves face the truth of our childhood. Our hope is that people who attend will become more involved in their local community to solve the problems addressed in the movie.”

Village 8 Theater is located at 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the theater’s website.
