Village 8 Louisville Exclusives presents 'Your Sister's Sister' [Movies]

You know those awkward sexual experiences you’re always running into? Man, those are the worst, aren’t they? Just smile and nod – and let’s turn our attention to indie filmmaker Lynn Shelton. She apparently loves making movies about such things. Let’s take, for example, her 2009 film Humpday – not a hugely released film, but it did premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. In Humpday, two friends, Ben and Andrew, get drunk at a party with some alternative-type people and learn about an upcoming amateur porn competition. One thing leads to another and they decide that they can totally win this thing if they do something truly original: they will have sex with each other on camera, despite neither of them being gay – a pure, physical expression of heterosexual friendship. Oh, and Ben is married. It’s a fun movie.

This year, Ms. Shelton released her new film Your Sister’s Sister, which is currently playing at Village 8 Theater as part of the Louisville Exclusives Series. In this film, Mark Duplass stars as Jack, who is still distraught a year after the death of his brother. His best friend Iris (Emily Blunt) sends him to take a vacation at her father’s cabin – and there he finds Iris’ sister Hannah (Rosemarie DeWitt). After a night of heavy drinking and commiserating, Hannah and Jack have sex – and then have to decide what to do about it when Iris shows up the next morning for vacation as well.

(Honestly, I watch the trailer and wonder what all the fuss is about. Sex does not equal commitment, people – you can move on with a mere “that was fun.”)

Your Sister’s Sister is scheduled to play at Village 8 until Thursday, July 19 (this is subject to change). Village 8 is located at 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the Village 8 website.
