Village 8 Louisville Exclusives presents 'Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding' [Mo

I don’t think that anyone would ever call me a hippie. I dress fairly conservatively; my hair is a bit on the shaggy side, but I try to keep it generally neat; my voice isn’t raspy from constant marijuana inhalation. However, I do try to buy meat which is free-range and local (I get all my eggs from a friend who keeps chickens in his backyard), I generally dislike being covered in clothing fabric, my wife and I are a bit, shall we say, progressive-minded when it comes to the topic of intimate relations, and I believe quite firmly in the idea of facial hair. Why do I mention this? Because I just watched the trailer for the film we are about to discuss. It’s posted at the end of the article. Go ahead and take a look at it. I’ll wait.

As you saw, the film in question is “Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding,” wherein modern woman Diane (Catherine Keener) and her two children go to visit with her mother Grace (Jane Fonda) after she and her husband decided to get a divorce. Now, Grace is a hippie, and naturally much of the comedy derives from the wacky shenanigans that come with such a silly lifestyle: chickens in the kitchen? A guy sitting at his table… in just his underwear?? Hilarious!!! Naturally, once Diane gets over her culture shock, being part of an alternate lifestyle shows her a different way of thinking about things and everybody learns valuable lessons which I’m sure will be portrayed in a completely original and non-formulaic way.

“Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding” plays at Village 8 Theater until Thursday, June 28 as part of the Louisville Exclusives series. Village 8 is located at 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the Village 8 website.

About Allan Day

There are legitimate theories that the Big Bang originated from the collapse of a black hole in a fourth-dimensional universe. This stuff fascinates me, and I love reading about it. I love reading about science. And about anything, for that matter, provided it's interesting - and everything is potentially interesting, so I'm fascinated by a lot of things. I also read a lot of fiction (Kurt Vonnegut deserves deification) and watch a lot of movies (Charlie Chaplin also deserves deification). I've made a few short films myself. I'm also a writer of everything - I'm close to a Bachelor's in English at IUS. My life consists of reading, writing, bartending, and taking care of my daughter full-time. Life is busy and life is stressful, but that's why there's music and art and other forms of relaxation.
