Village 8 Louisville Exclusives presents 'Playing For Keeps'
Print this page

This is the end. 2012: done. Today. This is all beside the point, but I'm taking a moment to talk about this. 2012 has been the single craziest, most transformative year of my entire life. I'm not exaggerating. The year has seen the highest highs and the lowest lows. It has involved mental hospitals, upheavals of relationships, great boldness, great cowardice, a weekend trip where I was... not in my right mind the basically the whole time, the courage to finally pursue my creative passions, the end of a marriage, the beginnings of other things, and all the wonder and strife that goes along with that. I've changed more than you know. And I think I've changed for the better. And for that I'm grateful for all the good things, and all the crap as well. Here's hoping 2013 is a little more stable.

This week, the Louisville Exclusives series at Village 8 presents Playing For Keeps

, the new film by Gabriele Muccino, director of

The Pursuit of Happyness

and

Seven Pounds

. Gerard Butler stars as George, a has-been soccer star (although judging by his accent, the sport would have gone by the proper name of “football”). In an attempt to get his life together, he takes a job coaching his son's soccer team – but temptation presents itself in the form of a beautiful woman, and he has to resist his vices.

Playing For Keeps

is scheduled to run until this Thursday, January 3, but is subject to extension. January 3... That's in 2013, folks. And 2013 is tomorrow. It really does feel like the end of a section of my life and the beginning of a new one.

Village 8 is located at 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the Village 8 website.

What about you? What are you leaving behind, and what are you hoping to find for yourself in the new year?

About Allan Day

There are legitimate theories that the Big Bang originated from the collapse of a black hole in a fourth-dimensional universe. This stuff fascinates me, and I love reading about it. I love reading about science. And about anything, for that matter, provided it's interesting - and everything is potentially interesting, so I'm fascinated by a lot of things. I also read a lot of fiction (Kurt Vonnegut deserves deification) and watch a lot of movies (Charlie Chaplin also deserves deification). I've made a few short films myself. I'm also a writer of everything - I'm close to a Bachelor's in English at IUS. My life consists of reading, writing, bartending, and taking care of my daughter full-time. Life is busy and life is stressful, but that's why there's music and art and other forms of relaxation.
