There was a big royal wedding earlier this year. It was this year, right? Maybe it was late last year. I also don't know who got married. Someone in England. One of the princes? I didn't pay attention. Clearly. It's the same old celebrity hype, just with a royal twist, and I don't feel the need to pay any mind to any of that crap. They got married – good for them! I hope they're very happy – well, I don't actively hope so, because, as I said, I don't care, but it's generally for the best if marital unions go well. I suppose. I could go on and on about that one. Marriage. This is not the appropriate platform for all the things I want to say. I've got a train of thought going here, and it's not very succinct journalism/blogging, so perhaps I should signal the conductor, Cletus Flannigan, to pull the ol' steam engine back into the station.

We are here to talk about the newest installment of the Village 8 Louisville Exclusives series, bringing art, foreign, and limited-release films to Louisville for the hungry cinephile. The film in question? A Royal Affair (entitled En Kongelig Affaere in the original language). It's about a royal affair. Specifically, Caroline Mathilde's affair with the doctor Johann Friedrich Struenesee. This is a true story, and it occurred in the 18^th century when Christian VII was the king of Denmark. He was mentally ill, and Caroline Mathilde was his queen. She fell in love with Struenesee and together they led a revolution. It was a pretty big deal – this is the second movie made about the event!

A Royal Affair is scheduled to play at Village 8 Theaters until this Thursday, December 13, but this is subject to extension. Village 8 is located at 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the Village 8 website.
