Kentucky is well-known for three things: bourbon, bluegrass, and horses. Hell, we boast “the most exciting two minutes in sports” every year – an event so exciting that even the Queen will show up to rub shoulders with O.J. Simpson! Horses are brilliant, majestic creatures, born to run free under the sun. After all, all great things must be allowed their freedom, for to restrain that would be nothing short of a travesty. Yes? What's that? I'm mistaken? Of course – dominion over the animals – it's in the Bible. Again: this is Kentucky, yes? Nothing wrong with taking a beautiful, strong-willed animal and “breaking its spirit.” Hurrah for humanity! We're number one! The entirety of nature is at our disposal, for our exploitation, entertainment, and ego-stokage.
Now that that's out of the way, I'll tell you about today's topic: Wild Horse, Wild Ride, a documentary which opened today at Village 8 Theaters as part of the Louisville Exclusives series. It tells the stories of three people – Charles, George, and Wylene – all tasked with taming a wild mustang in only three months for a Texas horse competition. In the process, all involved learn valuable lessons about life, love, perseverance, friendship, and the importance of further isolating ourselves from the purity of nature for the sake of entertaining other rednecks.
Wild Horse, Wild Ride is scheduled to play at Village 8 Theaters for a week, ending on Thursday, November 15 – but this is subject to extension. Village 8 is located at 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the Village 8 website.
