Visions of Derby at third annual Westport Village Spring Fashion Show
Print this page

Wednesday evening may have been brutally cold – the flurries adding a nice touch in spite of it – but it was spring glamour and visions of Derby that graced the runway at the third annual Westport Village Spring Fashion Show, held inside Summer Classics. Looks from Boutique Serendipity, Apricot Lane, Collections Closet, Chartreuse Boutique and Shirts Ties N Links wowed the crowd seated on either side of the long runway, as well as those gathered before the smaller stage behind the front of the house. Prior to the main event, guests could partake of appetizers from Napa River Grill and hiko-A-mon, chocolates from Ghyslain, and spirits from both Westport Whiskey & Wine and Absolut Vodka. Proceeds from the event benefited Maryhurst and their Stand Up for Girls Campaign.

“We are very happy to have a well-sponsored event tonight,” said Marsha Esarey, Vice President of Programs at Maryhurst, a charity established nearly 170 years ago by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, and whose mission is to help provide young girls with a secure and caring environment where there would otherwise be none. The Stand Up for Girls Campaign is a capital and endowment campaign with a goal to raise $10 million, most of which would go into building new facilities for the 200 children and teens under their care. “We’re really on our way. We have a great design team, a team that’s been… where the architects and engineers have come together,” Esarey continued, adding that the charity hopes to break ground on their new facilities this summer.

“The fashion show started three years ago, and it started as our Derby fashion show to get people ready for the big day. But it sort of evolved into a spring fashion show because March is when people start getting spring fever,” stated host Jordan Underhill, property manager and marketing director at Westport Village. “It’s a really unique show because it’s the only show in town where you can see the looks, and go buy them immediately after at one of the stores.” The Underhill family, as noted by both Esarey and Underhill, has a long relationship with Maryhurst, Underhill’s mother Colleen currently serving on the charity’s board of directors. The family also endows a scholarship for one young woman to attend college, given out once a year.
