For those that have been feeling a little German lately, you’re not alone. BBC and New Albanian Brewing Company have what you need this Saturday beginning at 2 pm down on Clay and Main Streets, as they bring the 2008 Volksfest to Louisville. Admission to the event is free of cost as all of the proceeds from the beer and food will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, St. Vincent DePaul Society and Louisville Film Society Educational Arm. So guests can feel good about tapping into their inner Griswold and eating, dancing and drinking the day away! As part of this block party, guests will find a unique assortment of German foods. Bring a big appetite as the selection will include Dogs, Brats, Kraut, German Potato Salad and a German favorite: Big Soft Pretzels. Local restaurants O'Shea's, Monkey Wrench and Café Lou Lou will be providing the themed- cuisine. No German festival is complete without the main component: Bier! Germany lays claim to have been making beers since 1460, giving them hundreds of years of practice over our American counterparts. So be sure to bring your stein along and try all of the Oktoberfest beers, featuring tastes from around the world and hand-chosen by local beer enthusiasts. The Red Hot Rascal Bavarian Experience begins at 2pm until 4pm with local bands taking the stage following the German entertainment. The party also includes a free showing of “Das Boot” after dark and a movie awards ceremony, hosted by 48 Hours Film Project. This downtown party runs until midnight, and with proceeds benefiting local charities, it’s a perfect reason for a party! For more information, call BBC at 502-419-2412 or 502-584-2739.
