    WorldFest 2012

    Louisville’s WorldFest is celebrating its 10th anniversary on Labor Day weekend—Friday, Aug. 31, Saturday, Sept. 1 and Sunday, Sept. 2, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. each day—with  delicious world food, music, dance and culture, downtown on Louisville’s Belvedere.  Exciting world music will come from more than 35 bands and performers while more than 30 food vendors and nearly 150 booths provide a global sampling of cuisine and culture.

    wf logo1_0.jpgAnd Amanda Lambert, over at Metro Hall, reminds us that it is not too late to sign up as a volunteer for WorldFest.   Below are some of the opportunities still available:

    Event Services Booth:  Set up and staff event services booth with assistance of Metro staff; assist with distributing materials and information about WorldFest, the Office for Globalization, and other related projects and initiatives as assigned; provide assistance in locating facilities and locations of vendor/exhibitor booths; volunteers will check-in at this location

    Greeters:  Assist with distributing WorldFest Event Programs to all incoming visitors; survey visitors as to their experience at the festival via the event raffle intake form; will occasionally assist ramp expediters in direction of ramp traffic (vendor/exhibitor, parade, etc); position reports to information booth for direction and supplies; work the ramp and assist guests

    wf pattern of cultures_0.JPGWorld Discovery:  Assist with distributing passports to appropriate age groups, assisting with crafts and other children activities.

    Parade of Cultures- Set Up:  Assist staff in setting up flags, signs, etc in alphabetical order to expedite check-in of participants; mark off parade route as needed.

    Parade of Cultures- Peacekeepers:  Mark off parade route and verify that route is accessible; line up parade participants immediately following distribution of flags and signage; act as security for the parade making sure to dismiss any participant for inappropriate behavior; assist along the parade route in distribution of fluids, crossing streets, etc. as required; assist Peace Keepers II in direction of traffic upon arrival to the Belvedere

    wf newFUNKphoto_0.jpgParade of Cultures- Greeters:  Check-in participants and direct to appropriate flags and signage; maintain listing all of all countries without representation and fill these slots with drop-in participants as they arrive; assist peace keepers in lining up parade participants in the appropriate order

    Parade of Cultures- Banner Carriers:  Carry the lead parade banner approximately four blocks

    Additionally, Louisville will be alive with activity this Labor Day as thousands of cyclists, paddlers and walkers gather for the 15th Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Subway Fresh Fit Hike, Bike & Paddle September 3 at Waterfront Park.
