Want to see how the interior construction of the new KFC Yum! Center is progressing?
Now you can have as many sneak peaks of the new downtown arena, before it opens, as you want. That's because the Louisville Arena Authority has installed a state-of-the-art megapixel webcam - which can be seen at www.arenaauthority.com - that will allow people to track the completion of the interior of the future home of the University of Louisville men's and women's basketball teams. It is scheduled to be open in 159 days.
"We wanted to offer a tool so the community could see the progress taking place inside the KFC Yum! Center now that so much of the exterior work is completed," Jim Host, Chair of the Louisville Arena Authority, said in a press release. "This is an exciting time as construction is on schedule for the fall opening, and so much is happening inside on a daily basis."
The camera, which takes photographs every 10 minutes and will capture 144 images daily, is mounted approximately seven stories high in the northwest corner of the building and it faces south into the bowl area of the arena. It will give viewers the chance to watch the installation of seats, the work on the suites and bar areas and other parts of the construction. Viewers will also be able to see the center scoreboard, as well as the corner and video boards, as they are installed.
Viewers will be able to zoom in, and out, approximately 600 percent to get a close-up view of the interior details.
"This ensures the public's ability to follow the KFC Yum! Center's progress," said Alicia Dunlap, Director of Information Technology for the Kentucky State Fair Board, which will handle operations for the facility. "People will see the installation of the center-hung scoreboard, the basketball court put in place for the first time and the various technology tests that will take place as we get closer to the opening."
