Last weekend was dark and miserable, perfect Rango at Baxter Avenue Theaters ambiance, but if I was a betting momma (which I am) I’d have to go with the following trifecta of events for families this weekend.
Add in the even-odds favorite of Second Saturday Frazier Family Day (March 12) to any weekend wager. With free admission for registered Kids Club members (membership is free at the door), your family can witness live sword fighting demonstrations and this weekend’s themed exhibits devoted to HERstory. Second Saturday events begin at noon, visit the Frazier Museum website for more information.
The second best bet lies in the 38th Annual Ancient Order of Hibernians St. Patrick’s Parade starting at Baxter and Broadway. Kids will be happy with the plethora of candy and beads thrown from the floats and parents, well, there’s beer. Mayor Fisher has a go-green theme this year (not talking about the beer this time). Maybe we should bet this one across the board. Always a fun time!
Turner’s Circus rounds out the trifecta. Witness children and mommas just like you (well, maybe a little more spry and daring) flip their way overhead on the tightrope, swallow fire, and gracefully twirl in the silks. This will be my first time, but I’ve heard it’s amazing. Showtimes are 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 or 7:00 (according to the Turner’s website) March 12-13 and March 18-19.
The long-shot of the weekend lies in the “Big Used Book Sale” to benefit Historic Locust Grove. Friday, Saturday and Sunday (March 11-13) from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30, thousands of used books including history, fiction, art, cooking, travel, children’s books, DVDs, audiobooks, and CDs will be sold from Locust Grove located at 561 Blankenbaker Ln. Sunday, the books go for half-price.
Have fun with the fam this weekend: drink a green beer, witness a family circus, watch a sword fight, and then kick back and read a new-to-you book. Come on, weekend...
