We've Got to Carry Each Other: The Gospel According to U2 Carmichael's 2720 Frankfort Ave. July 17, 7 p.m. Author Greg Garret will examine the spirituality of one of rock's greatest acts Friday night. Garrett's look at U2 runs from the band's founding to its current status as the elder statesmen of rock and how it has influenced areas outside of music. Hambone rocks Gerstle's Gerstle's 3801 Frankfort Ave. July 17, 10:30 p.m. I haven't been shy about my being a fan of Hambone. He'll be rocking Gerstle's again this Friday night, bringing an even bigger band of gypsies than previously: guitar, drums, bass and harmonica. If the 10:30 p.m. start time is too late for you, he'll be doing an earlier gig from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday night at Bearno's in the Highlands (1318 Bardstown Rd.). $0.25 ice cream social Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen Nine area locations (You probably know where your closest branch is) July 18, 12 to 4 p.m. For just $0.25 try one scoop in a sugar cone, cake cone or cup of any of this local favorite's 32 flavors of ice cream. While it's just one cone per person in line, there's nothing but fear of adult-onset diabetes to keep you from getting queuing up as many times as you want. (Via Consuming Louisville). Wine and cheese party Whole Foods Market Wine Shop 4920 Shelbyville Road July 18, 4 p.m. Sample Whole Foods' wine and cheese parings Saturday afternoon. I made a meal out of the upscale grocery's store's cheese samples earlier this week, so I can vouch for its quality. (Full disclosure: I own stock in Whole Foods. It's down 57.7 percent since I bought it. You're buying wine, cheese or even a kimono at Whole Foods will help me recoup my losses.) Comedian Jeff Dunham Freedom Hall 937 Phillips Lane July 19, 5 p.m. Comedian Jeff Dunham, number 84 on Forbes's list of the top 100 celebrities will be sticking his hand up the backside of little men when he brings his ventriloquist act to Freedom Hall. Tickets ($42.50) are available through the fine folks at Ticketmaster. Not sure if you want to go? Check out clips of his act on YouTube, which have been viewed 360 million times. For more information: Looking for something do to that's a little more highbrow? The Jane Austen Festival also takes place this weekend in Louisville.
