Westport exit on Watterson Expressway opens in time for Oaks [St. Matthews]

Is this real? Are my eyes deceiving me, or did I just get a press release announcing the grand opening of the Northeast I-264 ramp onto Westport Road?

I want to believe, but I've been hurt before. The Transportation Cabinet tells me such sweet lies, but they all turn to smog the moment I pull onto the highway. Here's their latest promise.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) cordially invites you to a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new interchange on Interstate 264 at Westport Road.  Governor Steve Beshear, Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez and KYTC representatives will officially open the interchange ramps of this $47 million project that also includes widening of Westport Road between I-264 and Hubbards Lane.   The location of the event will be at the interchange ramps on Westport Road which are between Washburn Avenue and Ambridge Drive.

In case of rain, the event will be held in the foyer of the Westport Road Church of Christ, 4500 Westport Road.  This location is approximately one block west of the interchange.

Westport Village is turning this into a celebration. Well, of course they are. They didn't tear down the creepy old Camelot Shopping Center and build a swanky new outdoor mall for funsies. They knew darn well that if they bided their time, soon enough that Westport Road exit would come to pass.

They're bringing out the Budweiser Clydesdales, ice cream and coffee specials, and the undying relief of everyone who lives in the area.

I've re-read the announcement twice. It doesn't say 2011. That heavily implies that starting tomorrow, the virtually mythical exit may really come into being. A girl can dream.
