The New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art invites you to come by the gallery on March 13, 2010 for 3 wheel demonstrations by clay artists Lenny Dowhie, Les Miley, and Beth Mohr. The gallery already represents these wonderful and talented artists, now come watch them as they work!
Beth Mohr, one of the region’s newest talents, focuses on making functional, wheel thrown and altered pottery. Mohr received her BFA at Millikin University and then continued her fine arts education at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. Mohr has been a part-time studio potter in Posey County for the last five years.
Les Miley is a professor Emeritus of Art at the University of Evansville in Indiana. After teaching for the art department for 40 years, Les has contributed greatly to the education of local and regional potters and has retained a huge following for his abilities in teaching and vessel making. His distinctive style, including tactile textures and ash glazes, makes his work easily recognizable and much of his oeuvre is in permanent collections at several Indiana Universities and museums as well as private collections.
Lenny Dowhie is a prolific ceramicist and professor at University of Southern Indiana. Lenny has spent the last 3 decades devoted to the arts education and culture in the Evansville area and abroad. His work is in numerous collections, such as the Shigaraki Ceramics Cultural Park, The Australian National University, American General Finance, and the Smithsonian Institute of American Art, Renwick Gallery.
