I suppose this really should be labeled worst former landmark since the infamous fountain hasn’t been anchored in the river for over a dozen years. When it first appeared, it was compared to St. Louis’ Gateway Arch. The last time I checked, however, they didn’t take down the Arch during part of the day or put it in storage anywhere.
Perhaps you have a photo of the skyline from the 1980s with the fountain; that actually makes the picture an interesting novelty. Ample parks, a good arts community, and innovative architecture help define a city much more than a floating hose. Oh well, it’s our communal equivalent of New Coke.
Nonsense
I was here in those days and the fountain was beautiful. Impressive and noteworthy to all who passed on the Kennedy Bridge it was quite magnificent but alas, too expensive for the City of Louisville to keep running. Kevin Sedelmeir's panning of this landmark shows much more about his narrow views than about his appreciation for this gift from the Binghams.
