It was no April Fool joke: Zenyatta, the first female to win the Grade I Breeders Cup Classic and the first horse ever to win two different Breeder's Cup Races, celebrated her 9th birthday yesterday by giving birth to her second foal. Over at Mr. and Mrs. William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm in Versailles, the 2010 Eclipse Horse of the Year gave birth to a male offspring just before midnight.
“The Queen of Racing,” delivered a healthy colt by Tapit at 11:47 pm EST on Monday April 1. Estimated at 145 lbs, he is a leggy chestnut with a white blaze similar to Zenyatta’s. Eager to start his new life, he was standing on his own by 12:18 am and nursing within an hour.
According to owners Jerry and Ann Moss, who were present for the blessed event, "Zenny" and her baby--dubbed "13Z"--are doing very well, and "...it’s a joy to see how much Zenyatta loves being a mom."
In March of last year, Zenyatta gave birth to her first foal, a bay colt by Bernardini, and called "12Z."
