The 158th Orphans' Picnic, will be held on Saturday, August 2nd from noon until midnight. Variety of booths, Raffles for the Capital Prize, Weekend Getaway, Fine Dining and Grandfather Clock. Featuring six artists from the Cincinnati-based “Urban Eden” shop and gallery, the troupe showcases a wide variety of mediums including pottery, abstract paintings, photography, fiber, sculpture, and contemporary crafts. All artists will be available at the Aug. 1 opening from 6-9 pm.

The weekend will kick off with a drive-in movie hosted by the Mellwood Arts Center on Thursday, July 31st at 9pm. Several cars will be on display, while the Mellwood parking lot will become a full fledged drive-in movie theatre, complete with a concession stand and a radio transmitted sound.

Narrow, hyper-elongated paintings of abstract strips of color that playfully shift in light and color. Influenced by the formations and rhythms of movement through the landscapes surrounding the Great Lakes in Ontario, Gooch’s paintings create subtle tensions between the jumps in palettes that contrast the organic surfaces within their geometric application.
