Friday Night Live will take place on the front lawn of the Home, from 5pm til 10pm, on Friday, August 1st. We will have music by the Midlife Crisis Band and the Epics and the food and beverage booths will be open, as well as several of the adult gaming booths. There is no rain date for this event. The 158th Orphans' Picnic, will be held on Saturday, August 2nd from noon until midnight. Variety of booths, Raffles for the Capital Prize, Weekend Getaway, Fine Dining and Grandfather Clock.

Vevay Main Street presents “Grape Escape” for August First Friday. Sponsored by the Swiss Wine Festival, the event will be held Aug. 1 from 6-9 pm in downtown Vevay. Downtown businesses will feature art exhibits and demonstrations, dining and late night shopping. Live entertainment will be provided by country bands Pure Country and Dry Fork. Free carriage rides will also be available. Judging will take place for local businesses who are participating in the wine barrel decorating contest.

Signatures of Switzerland County presents The Art of Urban Eden—Urban Meets Rural during Vevay Main Street’s August First Friday. The opening is part of the “Grape Escape” event to be held Aug. 1 from 6-9 pm. Sponsored by the Swiss Wine Festival, the event is free and open to the public. Featuring six artists from the Cincinnati-based “Urban Eden” shop and gallery, the troupe showcases a wide variety of mediums including pottery, abstract paintings, photography, fiber, sculpture, and contemporary crafts. All artists will be available at the Aug. 1 opening from 6-9 pm.

The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft is excited to announce that for the 7th year, it will be hosting the Kentucky Art Car Weekend on Friday, August 1st and Saturday, August 2nd, 2008 in conjunction with the First Friday Trolley Hop. The weekend will kick off with a drive-in movie hosted by the Mellwood Arts Center on Thursday, July 31st at 9pm. Several cars will be on display, while the Mellwood parking lot will become a full fledged drive-in movie theatre, complete with a concession stand and a radio transmitted sound.

July 25 – August 29: PETER GOOCH PAINTINGS Narrow, hyper-elongated paintings of abstract strips of color that playfully shift in light and color. Influenced by the formations and rhythms of movement through the landscapes surrounding the Great Lakes in Ontario, Gooch’s paintings create subtle tensions between the jumps in palettes that contrast the organic surfaces within their geometric application.

In the madcap comedy tradition of Lend me a Tenor, the hilarious Moon Over Buffalo centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950's. At the moment, they’re playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in rep in Buffalo, New York with 5 actors. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s dalliance with a young ingénue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel.

This exhibition is a competition for Kentucky artists. The show includes over 30 artists and many different mediums; most works are for sale. The grand prize is $500 and a solo exhibit.

Signs of Life by Charles Silver features photos from New Orleans 2008. Gallery hours are Wed-Fri 11-6 and Sat 11-3. This exhibit will run through August 9th.

Tradition and Innovation: American Masterpieces of Southern Craft and Traditional art is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts. This exhibit will feature works by 60 artists and craftspeople from throughout the Southern Arts Federation's nine partner states.

At Animal Adventure Camp, children have fun while expanding their animal care knowledge through hands-on activities with dogs and cats. Offered in weeklong and one-day sessions.

This exhibit will feature works by members of the Kentucky Watercolor Society.

Howard Schatz Redux features the stunningly beautiful color images of ballerinas, models, and acrobats from Cirque du Soleil, all photographed underwater. This exhibit will include those works that were not showcased in the Paul Paletti "H20" exhibition.

Dinosaurs Alive combines stunningly realistic and scientifically accurate computer generated imagery with intriguing documentary footage, dramatic new scenes of real fossils and current dinosaur hunting expeditions.

Assume the role of a dinosaur from the Cretaceous period and explore ways that dinosaurs may have related to one another and their environment.

May 17 through August 31 with a reception for the artists on May 17 from 5-7 PM. Jen Pellerin and Samantha Griffith of Louisville are among the 10 sculptors presented. Admission is free.

The Frazier International History Museum invites you on a righteous trip back to the days of the cultural and political awakening that was the 1960s. This temporary exhibition displays an inspirational collection of 150 photographs from the archives of Look Magazine photographer Stanley Tretick.
