Carmichael’s welcomes artist and graphic designer Danica Novogorodoff for a reading and discussion of her new graphic novel, Slow Storm. Novogorodoff grew up in Louisville and is currently working in New York as a designer at the publishing company First Second Books. Her work was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Single Issue Comic.

“Art Rugs: The Art of Playing Cards” combines the rich tradition of rug hooking with the universal appeal of playing cards to create both a unique and exciting exhibit. This international exhibit features the work of 57 textile artists, each commissioned to design an 18” x 28” art rug depicting one card from a deck of playing cards. Mr. Nader’s remarks will cover a broad range of issues, both national and state-wide. Mr. Nader was the first presidential candidate to pledge to end the destructive practice of coal strip mining and mountaintop removal mining. This practice continues to endanger the ecosystem of Eastern Kentucky. Further, a 2004 report by the Courier-Journal found Kentucky to be among the nation’s sickest states. Kentuckians die at a rate of 18 percent above the national average.
