“Art Rugs: The Art of Playing Cards” combines the rich tradition of rug hooking with the universal appeal of playing cards to create both a unique and exciting exhibit. This international exhibit features the work of 57 textile artists, each commissioned to design an 18” x 28” art rug depicting one card from a deck of playing cards. On November 1, KMAC will be having its 3rd Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Festival. Day of the Dead is a joyous holiday that originated in Mexico. This celebration honors the lives of deceased loved ones and the continuation of life. In this tradition, death is not seen as the end, but rather a new stage of life. This year KMAC’s celebration will include a traditional public altar to honor loved ones, a workshop, as well as a fun festival which will have food, music, art, a sugar skull contest, fire dancers, face painting and puppets.

"The Day of the Dead is an ancient Aztec celebration of death, the
bitter-sweet companion to life" (Luis San Vicencete, The Festival of
Bones). Students will learn about the history and traditions of this
holiday, while building "sugar skulls" to honor the dead & celebrate
life. Participants will hand build the skulls from black and white clay
bodies. The skulls will then be carved, stamped, glazed, and otherwise

Tatjana Krizmanic "Journeys". New pastel drawings by Colorado artist. Krizmanic’s pastel works are whimsical displays of European-influenced public and domestic scenes in brilliant strokes of color, making what would seem to be an ordinary occurrence into an extraordinary experience. Her work contains a warm cheerfulness where shifting perspectives make everyday settings come to life.
