Food for Thought is a luncheon and lecture series promoting local artists. This month, Stephen Powell, a glass artist will be the guest speaker.

A regional artist, Wendi Smith has been showing her work since 1975.
Primarily a painter, she also adds assemblage and collage, some textiles,
and sculptural elements to her work with the image. Her ecclectic approach
is always evolving, and the result is a mix of subjects and techniques.

Two central themes connect her work. The first is the idea of the image as
object. To change the expected two dimensional surface of a painting to
include three dimensions is a major interest.

In this lecture, Dr. Christopher Thomas is Associate Professor of Art & Architectural History at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, will take listeners through Lincoln's changing meaning for Americans, the protracted design and construction history of his memorial, and the "afterlife," or changing significance, of the Lincoln Memorial in social and political life up to the present. I am a certified as an Instructor by the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training to offer classes. The goal of the class is to learn more about firearms and other weapons. After taking the course, you may be eligable to obtain your concealed deadly weapons permit allowing one to carry concealed. You may receive a certificate of training from the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training after the course.

Her work contains a warm cheerfulness where shifting perspectives make everyday settings come to life.

This class will focus on astronomy from an observer's point of view. Questions answered: What resources do I need to discover the universe? How much of what is "out there" can I see? Do I need to invest in expensive equipment to get the most out of stargazing? In six sessions, the universe will be revealed to you! It is an exciting place and you have a ringside seat! And we will answer the last question here and now.....definitely not!

Students will learn to paint the human face and body. Attention will be given to shape, form, light and shadow. This class will also explore the use of color and composition for psychological effect. Instructor: Marty Edlin, Bachelors degree from the University of Louisville and Masters degree from the Art Institute of Chicago. Marty has been teaching art since 1986 and his artwork has been exhibited since 1984.

The Frazier hosts Liberty on the Border: A Civil War Exhibit September 27, 2008 through January 19, 2009 as part of the Lincoln Bicentennial.
