FAT Friday Forging: If you enjoy the heat and magic of the flame, at 7:30 PM master blacksmith Craig Kaviar will be giving a live forging demonstration taking viewers back thousands of years through the ancient art of hand forged metal. Though the technology has become more refined over the ages, the principals and techniques have stayed virtually the same. Blacksmithing as an art form has steadily made its way to the forefront over the efficiencies of modern technology.

The Mazin Annual Art Exhibition was conceived and created by Bernice and Benjamin Mazin and the Jewish Community Center’s Visual Arts Committee. The event is funded by the Mazin Visual Arts Fund and is a regional juried art exhibition of 2-D and 3-D art, open to residents of Kentuckiana 18 years and older. This class broadens the meditative learning from the Self Help Meditation I class and introduces several new deepening techniques that allow the individual to reach a perfect point of stillness. Glassworks opens the doors to the glassblowing studio and invites the public to work one-on-one with the resident artists to create their very own blown glass pumpkin. Flame Run contemporary art glass studio is marking the arrival of its newest resident artist – Jonathan Capps -- with “Glass Connections,” an exhibit that celebrates the studio’s friendships and connections to glass artists at Centre College and around the world. The show opens Oct. 3 and runs through Nov. 15. An opening reception begins at 6 p.m. on Oct. 3.

Students will learn to paint the human face and body. Attention will be given to shape, form, light and shadow. This class will also explore the use of color and composition for psychological effect. Instructor: Marty Edlin, Bachelors degree from the University of Louisville and Masters degree from the Art Institute of Chicago. Marty has been teaching art since 1986 and his artwork has been exhibited since 1984.

The Frazier hosts Liberty on the Border: A Civil War Exhibit September 27, 2008 through January 19, 2009 as part of the Lincoln Bicentennial.

The Speed Art Museum in Louisville premieres one of the most important collections of American art in the world. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness: American Art from the Yale University Art Gallery features the best American art from 1660 to 1900, presenting a glimpse into the history of this great nation from its pre-Revolutionary beginnings to the Gilded Age.

The American Tapestry Alliance is a 25 year old non-profit organization that promotes and supports tapestry weaving.
